Overview:

Provides general basic repairs to buildings, grounds and equipment to include electrical service, HVAC systems, plumbing, carpentry, painting, roof repairs, snow removal, landscaping, and masonry repairs, picks up delivers supplies, equipment and vehicles, cuts and install window shades, performs general maintenance and, janitorial services. Responds to location requested work orders. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, including but not limited to, fluid checks and greasing of parts.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency service requests. Effectively prioritizes work.
  • Completes work order correctly with minimal call backs.
  • Responds to after hours and weekend needs.
  • Inspects facilities on a routine basis and repairs items as required.
  • Closes out work orders upon completion.
  • Assists with projects as required (painting, cleaning, moving furniture, etc.). 
  • Provides minor office relocations of furniture or contents.
  • Communicates in a pleasant and competent manner with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, tools, and materials.
  • Clean and inspect vehicle that employee operates.
  • Performs light maintenance on vehicles.
  • Must be aware and responsible for all safety regulations and compliance issues that affect their area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required to work any and all emergencies as directed by the Commissioner or designee.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one (1) year full time, or equivalent part time, experience in a maintenance field.
  • High School degree or GED required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Ability to lift 45+ lbs.
  • Good written/communications skills.
  • General knowledge of power tools along with a basic knowledge of building components, electrical systems, plumbing, painting and carpentry with ability to repair. 
  • Operate equipment such as various power tools, forklift, snow blower, lawn mower, weed and brush cutters, floor washing machine, buffers, floor strippers and mechanical sweeper.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position.
  • Must have ability to operate a tow truck for towing if necessary.
