The Environment Department Communications Manager leads the digital, print, and outreach communications to enhance environmental justice and quality of life in Boston by protecting air, water, climate, and land resources. The Communications Manager helps to craft a narrative and communications strategy to help the City of Boston achieve carbon neutrality while working to mitigate and prepare for the effects of climate change, including flooding, sea level rise, and extreme weather.
The Manager reports to the Director of Communications for the Mayor’s Cabinet of Environment, Energy, and Open Space and to the Commissioner of the Environment Department. The Manager will work closely with the Carbon Neutrality, Climate Resilience, Environmental Quality, and Energy teams to effectively communicate department policies and initiatives, and develop engagement activities. The Communications Manager will also collaborate with other City departments on relevant programs and interact with all segments of the Boston community.
In collaboration with the Director of Communications for the Cabinet, the manager will evaluate the efficacy of programs and will recommend and implement changes that increase participation in and compliance with departmental goals, policies, and programs.
Boston residency required.
