Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job)

 

Under the direction of the Director of the Legal Division: The Senior Legal Assistant in the Ispectional Services Department will support lawyers with various legal tasks such as conducting legal research, drafting documents, and hearings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides legal research and drafts legal memorandum for zoning issues and other related legal issues, utilizing Lexis and Westlaw.
  • Provides litigation support to include document drafting and production, information gathering and public records requests, prepares documents for pre-litigation issues and filing of documents.
  • Tracks deadlines, documents, calendars through computerized case administration and management.
  • Reviews commercial and residential loan documents, title reports and policies.
  • Investigates title problems.
  • Researches, with due diligence, property histories, encumbrances and liens including tax status of properties.
  • Coordinates recordings of conveyance documents and liens.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to requests for assistance on additional projects, new ideas, changing conditions and departmental needs.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a graduate of a recognized paralegal program or a law student with a concentration in property law.
  • At least one (1) year of full-time,or equivalent part-time, practical experience in a law office or equivalent capacity required.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Westlaw and Lexis and legal practice management software preferred. Strong working knowledge of the system and practice of the Probate Court, Land Court and the Registry of Deeds highly preferred.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills, clear and effective writing and organizational skills preferred.
  • A multi-lingual candidate is preferred. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job

 

Boston Residency Required.
