BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION (essential functions of the job):

 

The mission of the City of Boston Property Management Department (PMD) is to manage, maintain, repair, and provide security for the City's municipal buildings including City Hall and Faneuil Hall; to preserve the useful life of City facilities and reduce operating costs through effective preventive maintenance measures.

 

The Alarm Specialist reports to the Senior Administrative Assistant (Manager of Security Systems) and is responsible for coordinating the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of CCTV, security and fire safety systems for the City of Boston’s Property Management Department. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises installation, maintenance, and inspection of intrusion alarms/CCTV and related equipment including cameras and access locks in public buildings and monitors as required.
  • Conducts periodic testing and inspections of intrusion alarm/CCTV to ensure reliable system functions.
  • Updates and maintains various security network software programs.
  • Conducts security surveys of public buildings for the purpose of installing intrusion alarm/CCTV systems and related equipment.
  • Trains Communications staff on alarm/CCTV system application and theory.
  • Assists the Senior Administrative Assistant (Manager of Security Systems) with supervising the Alarm Technician. 
  • Prepares appropriate departmental records in regards to work accomplished and significant events.
  • Performs related duties as requested.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years’ experience designing and monitoring installation of intrusion alarm /CCTV systems.
  • At least one (1) year of experience maintaining and operating computerized software or database programs related to security networks.
  • Possess a Massachusetts Class “C or D (Systems Technician)” Electrical License. 
  • Must possess and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  • CORI check required.
  • Must pass a computerized intrusion alarm audit after six months employment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on details as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED
