Overview:

This is a Civil Service (Labor Service) appointment. 

 

INDIVIDUALS WISHING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION MUST COMPLETE THE CIVIL SERVICE LABOR SERVICE REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR THE POSITION AT  http://www.mass.gov/hrd/macs  in addition to completing the City of Boston Career Center application.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of job):

 

Under general supervision, performs carpentry repair and construction work of average difficulty to buildings and equipment under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department and does related work as required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Repairs desk, tables, chairs, cabinets and other office furniture.
  • Makes and repairs boxes, wooden horses, cases, signboards, barricades, fences, sash and window frames and other wooden equipment.
  • Repairs building, doors, windows and floors.
  • Ability to make repairs to children's wading and spray pools.
  • May be required to perform concrete and glazing work.
  • Ability to repair wooden bridges and drain boxes
  • Ability to build and perform repair work to truck bodies.
  • When assigned, works underground in installing and repairing sewer gates.
  • Inspects and maintains tot lot equipment in parks city-wide.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have a least two (2) years of paid experience as a carpenter.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver's License. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

Pre-employment physical required.

CORI check required.

 

Boston residency required.

 

Terms: 

 

Union/Salary Plan/Grade:   AFSCME/RA-12L

Hours per week:  40 Hours; Monday - Friday, 7:00AM - 3:30PM
