Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under supervision of the Senior Radio Communication Technician, the Fleet Support Service Systems Operator operates and maintains communication and car wash systems; prepares weekly reports on operations, activities, and maintenance records and logs. Recommends repair or replacement of equipment as needed.

Responsibilities:

Communications Systems

  • Operates two-way radio system for receiving, dispatching, and monitoring calls from and to City mobile units.
  • Organizes radio equipment, spare GPS units, and accessory equipment.
  • Checks basic radio system functions (per operator complaints).
  • Assists in inventorying radio equipment using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Recommends repair or replacement of equipment as needed.

 

Car Wash Systems

  • Performs daily visual inspection of car wash equipment (per inspection checklist).
  • Monitors wash bay usage ensuring bays are clean and free of debris; cleans debris pits, as necessary.
  • Monitors proper usage of automatic and manual wash bays.
  • Assists with weekly/monthly maintenance schedules for both car wash bays.

 

Fuel Site Inspection

 

Daily inspection of Central Fleet Management (CFM) fuel sites as performed by a Class C UST Operator, including:

  • Maintains and re-sets leak detection monitors.
  • Cleans sumps, as necessary.
  • Monitors fuel levels for fuel tanks at each fuel site.
  • Maintains computerized daily fuel logs.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe work area; follow safety rules and guidelines.
  • Ensures alarms are operational. Responds to alarms or other indications of emergencies and notifies a Class A or B Operator.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required to work any and all emergencies as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in automotive/fleet management or a related field required. Automotive Trade School Diploma highly preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of operating a two-way radio system.
  • Must be able to obtain a Class C UST Operator certification within six (6) months of hire date and recertify annually.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver’s license.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public as well as with co-workers.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy with other City employees and the public.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and guidelines.

Boston Residency Required
