Overview:

The Mayor's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) coordinates the City's emergency management program and the Metro Boston homeland security program.  Our mission is to enhance the capacity of the City of Boston and the Metro-Boston Homeland Security Region (MBHSR) to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from major emergencies.  Working in close partnership with Boston's public safety and public health agencies, OEM plans and prepares for emergencies, educates the public about preparedness, conducts training, exercises and drills, and performs other services to support the City and Region’s overall preparedness. OEM follows an all-hazards approach, preparing for both natural and man-made emergencies.

 

OEM seeks a highly qualified candidate to serve as Logistics Specialist. Under the supervision of the Logistics Director, the Logistics Specialist will work closely with OEM planners, as well as City, State, Federal, and non-governmental agencies to prepare for the effective mobilization, tracking, use, and demobilization of resources required for emergency response and recovery operations.

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will support citywide resource management and logistics initiatives coordinated by OEM. The Logistics Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Executing logistics procedures in support of emergency operations.
  • Manage OEM purchased equipment and inform the logistics coordinator on necessary maintenance, repair, or procurement needs of the department to ensure a readiness posture.
  • Participate in the drafting of logistics plans and procedures.
  • Inform logistics plans and procedures developed by the Logistics Unit.
  • Conduct site visits and determine unique layouts for each location (staging areas, distribution points).
  • Participate in drills and exercises.
  • Staff the City’s Emergency Operations Center during emergency activations.
  • Support citywide operations with the deployment and retrieval of M equipment utilized to support partner agencies at the direction of the Logistics Coordinator.
  • Fulfill other OEM duties as assigned, including on-call shifts and staffing of the City’s Emergency.
  • Operations Center (EOC) during an emergency or major planned event.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 

  • Associate’s degree in public administration, public policy, emergency management, logistics management, planning or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in logistics, supply chain management, or other experience performing duties similar to those described above.
  • Must possess any and all licenses required by the Mass. Dept. of Public Safety to operate any department equipment to include but not limited to; towing, forklift, including a valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying emergency management principles and procedures.
  • Working computer proficiency, familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and experience with asset management systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B or CDL-A).
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, emergency management, logistics management, planning or a related field.
  • Experience in emergency management, logistics, supply chain management.
  • Experience supporting disaster response operations.
  • Previous experience working with federal, state and/or local emergency management programs.

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.

CORI/SORI AND ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED.
