Overview:

The City of Boston’s Office of Labor Relations offers law students the opportunity to intern in a dynamic, fast-paced environment working with Labor Attorneys who counsel City departments on labor matters including, the administration of the City’s collective bargaining agreements, participating in negotiations with various City unions over collective bargaining agreements and impact bargaining issues, represent City departments in the grievance and arbitration process and in court proceedings and proceedings before state administrative agencies.  

Responsibilities:

Assignments will vary but may include:

  • Assists with preparation for collective bargaining.
  • Assists in the preparation of cases for arbitration and for hearings before the Department of Labor Relations.
  • Assists with preparation for and participation in mediations with various unions.
  • Conducts extensive research and writing opportunities.
  • Performs related work as required by the job. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Students must be second year law students.
  • Labor & Employment Law course work desired.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

Boston Residency Required

Terms: 

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: Non-union $20 per hour

Hours per week: 20-35
