Overview:

The Analyst will perform tasks to offer support to the classification and compensation team.  As a member of the Office Of Human Resources, this role will interact with both its internal and external customers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews City of Boston job descriptions to ensure conformance to guidelines pertaining to requirements of Civil Service system and to City of Boston personnel policies and procedures, i.e. checks for validity of title, grade and salary; ensures content of duties correspond with title, description, format, punctuation and spelling and includes standardized language; ensures language conforms to the ADA. 
  • Conducts the preliminary review of all Compensation Grade Appeal applications forwarded by the Office of Labor Relations; verifies completion of necessary documentation, confirms receipt, and will schedule review appointments or job audits for the Classification & Compensation Review Committee members, union representatives, department supervisors and employees.
  • Responsible for managing and performing all clerical tasks for the Classification & Compensation division to support the daily operational needs.  
  • Assists with external salary survey data by running queries and responding to requests.  Gather data for any requests submitted under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). 
  • Duties include, but not limited to answering Class & Comp calls and transferring to employees. Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers. 
  • Assist and respond to the Office of Human Resources tier 1 & 2 self service portal inquiries and escalate to appropriate class & comp department members, if necessary.
  • Administers requisitions via ICIMS (or related job posting system) by reviewing and posting City of Boston job descriptions to ensure conformance to guidelines pertaining to requirements of Civil Service system and City of Boston personnel policies and procedures, i.e., checks for validity of title, grade and salary; ensures content of duties correspond with title, description, format, punctuation, and spelling, and includes standardized language; ensures language conforms to the ADA. 
  • Assists in researching data by collecting information across the City of Boston’s software platforms. 
  • Collects comparable cities data to assist in the benchmarking process. 
  • Collects job descriptions for related projects.
  • Works with departmental managers to solve a variety of issues relating to filling a vacancy such as information needed for the requisitions. Changes or enters posting dates at the department's request, denies unnecessary requisitions or requisitions no longer needed.  Notifies managers of approvals and confirms changes made to job openings. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of department policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Works with managers to educate them on the uses of the Career Center by participating in formal training with personnel and providing hands-on instruction to new managers.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Must have at least three (3) to four (4) years of administrative, human resources, or customer service experience.
  • Associates degree from an accredited college in Business Administrations, Human Resources, Finance or similar field of study. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, plus high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, and Google Suite.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
