This is a provisional appointment.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general supervision, directly supervises a group of carpenters and other building tradesmen performing carpentry repair and construction work of average difficulty to buildings and equipment under the jurisdiction of the Parks Department and does related work as required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assigns, supervises and checks rough or finished carpentry work and general repairs and maintenance to buildings and equipment.
  • Supervises and performs carpenters.
  • Makes and/or repairs building appurtenances.
  • Inspects and approves work of carpenters in process and at completion.
  • Keeps time records of subordinates and makes progress reports of work performed and materials used.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in repairing benches, poles, play equipment, etc, throughout the parks system.
  • Ability to incidentally oversee painting, masonry and related work.
  • Ability to make rough sketches and layout work for others.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have A.) at least three (3) years of paid experience as a carpenter of which B.) at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver's License.

Employment Site:

Franklin Park Maintenance Facility as assigned.
