Brief Job Description:

 

The Boston Community Choice Electricity (BCCE) Engagement Assistant will work with the BCCE Program Manager to engage with customers and prospective customers to educate, assist and enroll Boston residents and small businesses in the BCCE program.

 

BCCE is Massachusetts's most extensive municipal aggregation program, with more than 200,000 customers, providing electricity to Bostonians. Customers can receive electric supplies from the electric distribution company (currently Eversource for Boston), third-party suppliers, or in Boston, BCCE. Compared to the options, BCCE provides price stability, competitive pricing, and the opportunity to purchase electricity with lower carbon emissions.

The successful candidate will work closely with the BCCE Program Manager, Director of Communications, Director of Community Engagement for the Environment, Energy and Open Space Cabinet (EEOS), Environment Department Community Engagement Manager and the Environment Department's Communications Manager, the City's municipal aggregation consultant, the electricity supply vendor, and others to help educate the public about the program. This will include replying to constituent phone calls and emails, attending City and community meetings and events, and making presentations in person and virtually.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the public regarding (BCCE) Boston Community Choice Electricity.
  • Work with constituents to answer program questions, explain the 'Bostson Community Choice Electricity' frequently asked questions, and provide support as needed.  
  • Assist with program enrollment/registration forms by explaining enrollment details.
  • Address questions regarding electric service and the BCCE program.
  • Engage with environmental justice communities about the program through an equity and inclusion lens.
  • Conduct both in person, telephonic and virtual meetings.
  • Represent the BCCE program at City-sponsored and other events.
  • Make presentations regarding BCCE.
  • Ability to travel to events throughout the City.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma, or GED.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts Drivers License.
  • One to Two (1 to 2) years of customer service experience or community engagement. 
  • Ability to manage stressful or unusual situations to maintain good customer service.
  • In-depth knowledge of Boston neighborhoods.
  • Community engagement and outreach experience (volunteer or work history).
  • Knowledge of and experience working with  Boston’s environmental justice communities.
  • Available for weekend and evening events as needed.
  • Ability to make/take calls off-site (remote work), as needed.
  • Comfortable presenting to small and large groups (or willing to grow in this area) both in-person and virtually.
  • Bi/Multilingual preferred (fluent), preferably Spanish or Cantonese.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Comfortable working individually at times (in-office and in the community).
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.
