Develops and implements initiatives to enhance the public’s access to and experience at the Central Library in Copley Square, including the building’s art and architecture, layout, wayfinding, services and collections.  Reviews and assists in the resolution of maintenance and visitor experience issues throughout the complex. Coordinates the Art and Architecture tour program at the Central Library in Copley Square and other library-related tours or visits.

• Works closely with the Manager of the Central Library to develop goals and standards for Central Library public service and operations through continuous evaluation of visitor experience. Remains aware of public adherence to all applicable Library policies and guidelines and makes recommendations for adjustments to applicable policies. Reviews workflows and procedures with the focus on implementation of improvements to service delivery.
• Maintains a vigilance and awareness of the Central Library in Copley Square with a visitor’s eye to create and maintain a positive and welcoming experience. Works with the Operations Division to support their work of ensuring that the Central Library is inviting, stimulating, comfortable, clean, and safe.
• Collaborates with the Manager of the Central Library, Communications, and Library Services Team to evaluate, improve, and implement wayfinding and layouts for service points in the Central Library that best support public service delivery.
• Works with the Equity & Outreach Coordinator to ensure DEI principles are integrated into the visitor experience at the Central Library including exhibitions, displays, wayfinding, furniture, and other patron-facing services.
• Develops and manages the Art and Architecture tour program at the Central Library and coordinates requests for public, private, and special tours. Develops and oversees tour guide meetings and ongoing enrichment programs; compiles and reports program statistics; and creates and oversees special exhibition-related tours as appropriate. Oversees the training and supervision of the guides.
• In coordination with Communications staff, develops printed interpretive materials highlighting the library’s spaces and services for public use.
• Works with curators, Preservation staff, and security to facilitate installations of collections and related interpretation throughout the Central Library.
• Works with the Manager of the Central Library to review workflows and procedures with the focus on implementation of improvements to service delivery.
• Represents the Boston Public Library at conferences and other meetings as assigned.
• Provides back-up to public service points in the Central Library as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university. Master's degree in library and information science or in museum studies, art history, education or relevant field required. In exceptional instances specialized education, training and/or experience may be substituted for part of all of the educational requirements.

Experience:

• Fouryearsormoreexperienceina visitor services or another relevant field. Some supervisory experience desired including managing volunteers.
• Technologically advanced; expert user of Adobe Suite, especially InDesign and Illustrator, Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Proficiency in a language other than English desired.

Requirements:

• Flexible Schedule: Some evening and weekend hours; weekly schedule varies based on scheduled programs and events.
• Residency – Must be a resident of the City of Boston upon the first day of hire.
• CORI – Must successfully clear a Criminal Offenders Record Information check with the City of Boston.
