Overview:

This is a temporary (one-year) grant-funded position.

 

The City of Boston seeks to hire two liaisons to support service coordination, documentation, provide referral services, and serve as an overnight point of contact for people who are experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Boston, with a special focus on the Newmarket neighborhood. The position is part of the Coordinated Response Team (CRT) and as such, provides clear communication and coordination of activities conducted by all CRT member teams in critical areas. Please note: these positions are assigned to work overnight.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides referral services to clients encountered during outreach and performs follow up documentation of each interaction.
  • Provides supplementary basic case management services in coordination with the lead case management team.
  • Troubleshoots with clients on difficulties navigating housing, medical care, identification, benefits, among other systems.
  • Liaises and collaborates with on-street public safety, public health, and sanitation teams to promote a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensures access to the public way for members of the public and staff conducting business in the area by promoting removal of obstacles, including structures such as tents or encampments while respecting constituents’ property rights.
  • Assists with communication, crowd management, and response during weather emergencies (snow, flooding, heat).
  • Liaises with volunteer groups who are conducting outreach on the street and informs them about sanitation regulations.
  • Assists with implementation of peer-driven intervention to reduce overdose.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Boston residency required

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A.D. or BA/BS required or equivalent experience may substitute.
  • 2-3 years experience in health care, public health, or social service field.
  • 2 years in community outreach/case management activities. Knowledge or experience conducting street outreach is preferred.
  • Knowledge in the area of substance use and previous experience working with people who use drugs.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence with diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required; must be self-directed.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills preferred.
  • Bilingual preferable, bicultural desirable.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Willingness to work on the street and other unstructured environments.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and during adverse weather (snow, heat, etc.) emergencies as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.
