This is a provisional appointment.

Under general supervision of the Commissioner of the Election Department, the incumbent is responsible handling the technological needs of the department, which includes maintaining the Voter Registration database, and other software utilized by the department.

• Assist with the preparation of an accurate and up-to-date voting list, and for the maintenance of the voting list. 
• Assists in the development, implementation, continual modernization and improvement of the department’s administrative policies and procedures. 
• Must be able to develop complex computer reports, spreadsheets, database and statistical data related to election and listing (annual city census) activities. 
• Responsible for the day to day operations of the department’s computer system including installation of software upgrade. 
• Able to maintain and develop computer programs to track voter activity and listing mailing and responses from residents, management companies, colleges, nursing homes and other multiple dwelling unit owners. Utilizing PeopleSoft software assists with the purchasing and payment of bills and contracts. 
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.  
• Able to work flexible shifts during election and listing periods.
• Serves as a liaison to the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), and the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s Voter Registration Information System (VRIS) Division. 
• Exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position.
• Performs other related the duties as required.  

• Candidates must have at least 3 years of full or equivalent part-time experience in data processing or computer informational systems.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Accounting or a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of experience; a Master’s degree in the aforementioned fields may be substituted for the three (3) years of required experience.
• Must be computer proficient and able to develop complex computer programs, spreadsheets and statistical reports. 
• Working knowledge of City of Boston, Massachusetts, and Federal laws and regulations affecting voter registration, election administration, voting, and jury lists is preferred.
• Familiarity with the state VRIS system is preferred.
• Ability to follow complex instructions and communicate effectively with staff and the general public.  
• Ablity to maintain and develop computer programs relating to the election process.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, database software and spreadsheets (Access, Visual Basics, Excel, etc.).
