Overview:

The Mayor’s Office is looking for an innovative and thoughtful Creative Director to own the brand and voice of Mayor Michelle Wu and lead the Mayor’s Digital Team. The Creative Director will spearhead the strategy and implementation of mayoral branding, digital engagement, relevant design projects, video, and social media content. This leadership role will work with the broader Mayor's Office and City of Boston departments to create, develop, and manage all mayoral digital communications. The Director must work effectively and efficiently alongside a diverse team of municipal leaders to execute a successful digital communications effort both locally and nationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Transformatively supervise and lead Digital (4) and Photography (4) team members by providing opportunities for reflection and growth.
  • Work closely with the Chief of Communications and Mayor to set high level goals and strategy in alignment with administrative priorities and policies.
  • Build and implement an innovative, authentic, values-driven social media strategy which elevates our presence with dynamic content that engages all of Boston’s residents.
  • Provide constructive feedback, final edits, & approvals on social copy, graphics, & videos.
  • Monitor the Mayor’s activities to develop and maintain an effective social media calendar.
  • Represent the Digital Team in intra-team and/or interdepartmental meetings by setting meeting agendas and speaking on behalf of the Team.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience OR six (6) years of experience working in digital communications, including social media and/or online marketing, with a preferable focus on progressive government and/or campaign communications.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and AfterEffects.
  • At least two (2) years experience supervising creative, digital, and/or communications teams, building and providing constructive feedback on graphic design, video editing, and website design and with a transformative leadership style focused on worker growth and development.
  • Admin-end mastery of social media platforms, specifically: Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Hootsuite.
  • Experience monitoring and interpreting social media analytics and data to inform digital content opportunities and improve overall strategy.
  • Knowledgeable of different constituent groups and neighborhoods across the City of Boston.
  • Familiarity with growing and enforcing brand guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and navigate rapid-response situations, including availability on evenings & weekends (as needed).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience working closely with and understanding the voice of a single principal.
  • Detail and deadline-oriented, with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Multilingual preferred.
  • Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn Asana and/or other project management software preferred.
  • Experience with basic photography and video recording equipment, such as DSLR cameras, lenses, tripods, microphones, gimbals, and more preferred.
