Overview:

The Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) Chief of Staff is responsible for improving the department's productivity and managing progress toward goals. BCYF's Chief of Staff performs a variety of advanced professional duties and analytical projects for the Commissioner; relieves the Commissioner of administrative detail; serves as a project manager to priority initiatives; Represents the Commissioner at internal and external meetings as needed.

Responsibilities:

Duties are performed under the general direction of the Commissioner. As the principal aide to the Commissioner handles a wide range of projects and departmental matters of importance, including:

  • Leads various strategic initiatives including BCYF’s identified priorities, operations of the Executive Office, and special projects.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of organizational policies, protocols and procedures in every aspect of the department.
  • Serves as the Commissioner’s liaison with BCYF personnel and community partners to ensure information flow to and from the Executive Office.
  • Works with Commissioner and senior leadership on systemic efficiencies, strategy development and organizational coordination.
  • Prepares and/or contributes to preparing reports, briefings, presentations, and responses on institutional and strategic issues, as appropriate.
  • Supervises projects on behalf of the Commissioner that involves senior-level staff.
  • Works in a confidential capacity with the Commissioner.
  • Supports management of the executive leadership team, ensuring adequate resources and infrastructure to achieve goals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or comparable years of experience.
  • 5-10 years of project management experience designing and implementing human service programs and working within city/municipal government.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Google Suite.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills.
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and various stakeholders.
  • Innovative thinking with a results-focused work ethic.
  • Commitment to the mission of BCYF and service to all Boston residents.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, and Vietnamese).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • MA Driver’s License is required.
