Overview:

Brief Job Description:

 

The City of Boston is seeking a Principal Accountant for the Accounting Division within the Treasury Department.  This individual will assist in the divisions’ duties and daily functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares Federal and State Tax documents for payment processing.
  • Prepares transmittals to transfer receivables from financial institutions for funding purposes.
  • Records receivables to the general ledger via iNovah.
  • Assist with the daily balancing of the City’s main account.
  • Facilitate requests for the City’s W9.
  • Handles the remote deposit of checks into the bank and deposits ineligibles for the Inspectional Services and Treasury Department.
  • Prepares documents and invoices related to the Browne/Parkman Fund creating non-orders from grant agreements.
  • Assisting grant recipients with vendor set up.
  • Assist with the annual trust fund audit.
  • Responsible for the documentation and processing of union awards and grants.
  • Oversee the payments of small grant awards and scholarships.
  • Collaborate with the Trust team to prepare and record documentation for the Neighborhood Housing Trust and the Neighborhood Jobs Trust.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of full-time professional experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • An Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field preferred and may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of required experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • A strong understanding of grant awarding policies.
  • Strong ability to work independently, be highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Capable of multitasking multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Accounting and Trust Divisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of exercising good judgment and focusing on details as required.
  • Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft Financial or iNovah applications preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and google sheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in diverse teams and build strong relationships across a range of functional areas.

Boston Residency Required

Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade:  SEIU/RL-16

Hours per week:  35
