Overview:

Brief Job Description:

 

The Policy and Research Director is responsible for providing support in key areas, performing key tasks to move programs/initiatives forward, and contributing to reports and research to advance the mission of the Office for Black Male Advancement. The Director will support the office in performing a range of responsibilities, Including My Brother’s Keeper and Black Men and Boys Commission support, and provides logistical support to special projects and events.

Responsibilities:

The Director will support the office in performing a range of responsibilities, including:

 

  • Helps establish and craft policy and related talking points, informational briefs, and memos for the Office.. 
  • Provides recommendations, guidance, and ideas on Black Male Advancement policy related projects to better serve Black male residents of Boston, assisting in all aspects of the projects as necessary. 
  • Assists Black Male Advancement divisions in policy development and research, including managing the implementation of policy initiatives. 
  • Works closely with Intergovernmental Relations.
  • Serves as liaison to Policy Directors in other departments and to the Mayor’s Chief of Policy.
  • Stays abreast of all federal, state, and municipal policy developments related to Black men and boys.
  • Provides input on fact sheets, reports, memos, and all correspondence to the Mayor and others.
  • Supports all Office of Black Male Advancement initiatives and priorities through legislative and administrative tracks; prepares testimony for administrative and legislative venues, and when requested delivers said testimony.
  • Meets regularly with the Executive Director to brief, discuss, and assess projects; participates in all Black Male Advancement staff meetings as required and requested.
  • Staffs the Executive Director at meetings, providing notes and ensuring follow-up as needed.
  • Serves as a delegate for the Executive Director in meetings, bodies, and events, as requested.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results to reach the mission of the Office.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in public policy development, research and advocacy.
  • Preferred degree in Public Policy or a related field.
  • Substantive knowledge of policy area(s) addressed in Black Male Advancement.
  • Research capabilities, analysis, and utilization of data are desirable.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for research and communication.
  • Highly organized with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively as a colleague and team builder.
  • Demonstrated capabilities to work successfully within coalitions.
  • Innovative thinking with a results-focused work ethic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, motivation, commitment, and passion, integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of the City of Boston.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

Boston residency required.
