Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Reporting to the Director of the Research Unit or other assigned supervisor, designs and conducts real estate valuation studies and surveys.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Generates linear and nonlinear regression models.
  • Generates statistical analyses to assist in property valuation decisions.
  • Evaluates and develops alternative residential valuation methodologies, keeps current on best practices in modeling and innovative valuation techniques.
  • Evaluates commercial valuation processes, techniques, reports and analysis.
  • Confers with management and assessors to define valuation and assessment issues and executes programs and studies to address them.
  • Maintains close contact with valuation management and staff on valuation and research initiatives.
  • Uses GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to conduct research and provide information that supports property valuation.
  • Gains an understanding of valuation and assessment issues through field inspections with assessors.
  • Oversees and conducts studies of CAMA (Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal) valuation methods and assessing standards.
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports, spreadsheets, databases, statistics, etc.
  • Conducts data-quality and ad-hoc reports.
  • Supervises workers of a lower grade as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in statistical research, economics, mathematics or a related field.
  • Relevant educational substitutions may be accepted for two (2) years of this experience; a Master's degree in an appropriate field is preferred and may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office products and Internet.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to handle complex and multiple assignments, to be flexible and creative, and to meet deadlines.
  • Strongly preffered:
    • Experience in commercial real estate valuation and related concepts.
    • Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis and reporting techniques; knowledge of Access, Excel, SPSS or other statistical packages, presentation graphics, GIS software, Tableau and other application software; knowledge of SQL, CAMA and programming languages.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of real estate assessment and modeling practices, valuation methodology and GIS analysis.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, including data presentation.

 

City of Boston Residency Required.

 

Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SEIU/RL-18

35 hours per week
