Overview:

THIS IS A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT 


Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

 

Under direction of the Chief of Streets, serves as Budget Director for the Office of Streets,Public Works Department, and Transportation/Office of Parking Clerk Departments.   

Responsibilities:

  • Performs work of considerable difficulty in managing, maintaining and developing fiscal monitoring and operational systems, by working with, and overseeing the budget functions of the various divisions of the Department. 
  • Supervises staff in accounts payable, contracts, and budget.
  • Oversees and/or performs all budget functions related to the Department's operating, capital, and grant budgets including preparation; monitoring and projections; research and analysis of costs; reporting; and recommendation and implementation of budgetary controls.
  • Responsible for monthly reports of accounts and performance measures for all divisions and Snow and Ice Control. 
  • Oversees the purchase of goods and services through PeopleSoft Financials. 
  • Develops and recommends changes in policies and procedures designed to improve the efficiencies of the department in matters of budget management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, contract administration; and performs related work as required. 


Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have at least (4) full years full time professional or technical experience in accounting, budget and financial reporting, public administration, business management or related field.
  • At least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft; Human Resources and Financials, knowledge of City of Boston procedures for purchasing and servicing and contracts strongly preferred; computer literacy in Excel and Word required.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the position.


BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.


Terms:
Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA MM1-10
Hours: 35 per week
