Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Reporting to the unit supervisor or person of higher grade in the Collecting Division performs work requiring a high degree of judgment to implement regulations and procedures.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Carries out clerical, data management, office functions; provides information regarding real estate and personal property taxes, valuation, exemptions and abatements, motor vehicle and related Collecting Division matters.
  • Prepares correspondence and reports.
  • Handles Collecting Division duties and processes mail for real estate, personal property and motor vehicle and boat excise.
  • Manages files, records and electronic databases.
  • Assists in various operations in research and special projects.
  • Operates office equipment, including computer hardware and software.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of fulltime, or equivalent part-time, office experience.
  • Appropriate education substitutions may be made.
  • Experience using computer systems and databases such as Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel etc.) and the MUNIS Tax billing and collection system preferred.
  • Ability to perform clerical work requiring individual judgment. 
  • Ability to communicate with the public and coworkers effectively in person, by phone, and in writing. 
  • Ability to plan and organize work; to exercise judgment; to accept responsibility; to take initiative; to foster teamwork and cooperation. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle varying assignments.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Some knowledge of Assessing and Collecting information.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
