Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description:(essential functions of the job):

 

Reporting to the unit manager or assigned supervisor of higher grade, collects property data relating to commercial and residential real estate and personal property valuation, enters and manages data in a CAMA (computer assisted mass appraisal) system and related systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Draws property sketches to scale and makes calculations.
  • Conducts interviews with property owners, managers, tenants and others to obtain and validate information.
  • Provides information to taxpayers and co-workers.
  • Directs, trains and reviews work of staff of lower grade as required.
  • Researches abatements, prepares reports, does special projects, maintains and reviews data, handles equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least (1) one year of experience in real estate appraisal, preferred.
  • Have an understanding of appraisal methodology and its relation to data collection procedures. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with co-workers and with the public preferred. 
  • Demonstrated mathematical and analytic ability preferred. 
  • Knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, Windows environment and application software preferred. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software preferred. 
  • Ability in database and in specialized software applicable in assessing work preferred. 
  • Written communication skill, including ability to present data and to prepare communications and reports, preferred. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skill, initiative and flexibility preferred. 
  • Ability to work in all Boston neighborhoods required. 
  • Safe driving record. Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and must be able to focus on detail as required by the job.

 

City of Boston Residency Required.

 

Safe driving record and valid Massachusetts driver's license required.

 

CORI check required.

 

Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: AFSCME/RA-14

 

Hours per week: 35, Monday - Friday 9:00am – 5:00 pm
