Brief Job Description:

 

The Policy Assistant for Climate, Infrastructure and Labor, supports the Mayor's Office by managing administrative and operational responsibilities related to policymaking communications, and policy related community engagement.  This includes but not limited to coordinating and facilitating the scheduling of GND, Infrastructure and Labor Advisor's internal and external meetings; managing the overall organization of materials for the policy team, including paper flow to the Mayor, and assisting on special projects as needed.  The position frequently acts as a liaison to the administration officials, external stakeholders, the media and residents of Boston.  The position may have exceptional opportunities for growth and offer high level hands-on experience for the right individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather, compile, verify, and analyze information for the executive's use in documents such as memos, letters, reports, speeches, presentations, and news releases.
  • Facilitate smooth communications between the Senior Advisors and coworkers and between the external partners, such as media, customers, and the public.
  • Analyzes problems, determines approach, compiles and analyzes data, and prepares recommendations
  • May coordinate activities between  departments and outside parties especially when working on setting up events
  • Handles details of a highly confidential and critical nature.
  • Manages the daily calendar for the Green New Deal Advisor, Infrastructure Advisor and the Labor Advisor including the planning and coordination of all details related to meetings, events and preparation of written materials.
  • Performs administrative functions, including triaging emails and other inquiries and responding promptly and courteously.
  • Assist with creating briefing materials for meetings and events, including talking points.
  • Acts as liaison between the Seniors Advisor's and other members of the Mayor's Cabinet, external stakeholders, and residents of Boston.
  • Assists the GND, Infrastructure and Labor Advisor's with special projects, including those related to the Mayor's Office, policy issues, and communications.
  • Supports the daily operations and activities of the GND Advisor, Infrastructure Advisor and the Labor Advisor
  • Represents the Senior Advisors, Policy Department and the office of the Mayor in a professional manner.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of full time, or equivalent part time professional experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Associates or Bachelor's preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Google Suite tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community building, civic engagement, equity and justice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. ability to adapt communication style to different communities and audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; willingness to work as part of a multicultural team; commitment to building genuine, respectful relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills including, but not limited to, the ability to handle multiple demands and assignments and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Requires the ability to exercise independent judgement and a high degree of initiative in resolving problems and developing recommendations.
  • Knows how to leverage resources and delegates effectively.

 

Boston Residency Required.
