The Boston Green New Deal (GND) is The Mayor's vision for the future of Boston as a City that benefits from our collective action on climate change.  As a commitment to the people of Boston, the GND is a framework for city government that focuses on reducing climate pollution and preparing for climate threats by implementing strategies that address social economic, and racial inequity.  Boston's GND Director is responsible for advancing the City's climate agenda and directing an all-of-government approach to climate action that is rooted in a just social and economic transition.


Brief Job Description:


The GND Policy Analyst and Implementation analyst (GND Analyst) supports the work of the GND Director and provides essential analytical and project management duties that drives Boston's climate impact,  The GND Analyst will initially be responsible for research and analysis across the City, and it is expected that they will eventually develop a portfolio of topics and projects to lead.  The GND will have significant exposure within City government and with regional and global partners.


  • Coordinates research on local, national, and global trends; technical, policy, and programmatic practices related to Boston GND priorities; historical and planned city activities.
  • Carries out quantitative and qualitative analysis in support of launching new programs, evaluating new programs and investments, long-range planning, and benchmarking.
  • Prepares internal and external deliverables, including briefing memos, internal reports, and internal and external presentations.
  • Attends and participates in internal and external meetings, representing GND Director and City as needed.
  • Collaborates with City Departments to track state and Federal legislation, policy, funding opportunities.
  • Assist in the incubation of new programs and supports City departments in launching and managing projects.
  • Collaborates closely with city departments and embeds with existing teams and projects to support GND priorities.
  • As needed, manages projects and is responsible for technical and administrative oversight.
  • As needed, collaborates with and oversees the work of the Assistant to the GND Director.
  • Supports communications and engagement activities.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with the City and with stakeholders to facilitate Boston GND success.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years full time or equivalent part time professional experience.
  • Undergraduate degree required; post graduate degree preferred in fields such as Environmental policy, Law, Planning and Sustainability, Public Administration, Business, Economics and Public Health.  Because of the broad and inter-sectional nature of the GND, qualified candidates from diverse academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.
  • Familiarity with local government/or Massachusetts state government and policy.
  • Experience with PowerPoint and Google workspace tools.
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in key components of the GND, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, transportation, community development, social services, natural resources, and health.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting self-directed research analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Experience planning and managing projects.
  • Ability to balance and execute multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to multitask, establish priorities and thinks strategically, collaboratively and proactively.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.


Boston Residency Required.
