Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the position):

 

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Boston Landmarks Commission in the Environment Department, the Assistant Survey Director works as part of the preservation staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs general duties as part of the preservation staff.
  • Assists with the performance of the duties of the Commission including preparation of study reports and correspondence.
  • Conducts specific planning and research tasks and projects, sometimes in conjunction with other agencies and departments. Performs public information activities such as responding to information requests and preparing press releases.
  • Assists with marketing efforts such as preparation and distribution of public information materials. Performs related work as required.
  • Performs related duties as required

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have at least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the area of preservation management. 
  • A bachelor's degree in Preservation Studies, Fine Arts, Architecture History or related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. 
  • A master's degree in the same fields may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Strong research and writing skills required; familiarity with preservation programs and regulations desirable.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.
