Overview:

This is a provisional appointment.

 

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Investigates complaints of Code Violations, educates the public on proper storage of trash by distributing brochures and answering inquiries.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Issues Violation Notices for properties which fail to comply with the codes.
  • Initiates court proceedings against owners or businesses for continuously or flagrantly violating the Environmental Codes.
  • Reports to the office any problems in the field that need attention by other agencies to correct the problem.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have knowledge of laws and ordinances relative to enforcing violations for litter, rubbish, garbage and investigative procedures.
  • Must be able to pass a written examination for a Licensed Special Police Officer.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Police Officer license.
  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver's license. 
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

CORI check required.

 

Boston Residency Required.
