Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Advancement (MOWA), the Office and Communications Manager will work with internal and external partners to achieve the Mayor’s efforts to improve gender equity in Boston, focusing on data and research, women’s economic equity, and women’s health and safety. The successful incumbent should possess a desire and passion for local government work.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Executive Director on the department's key policy initiatives and projects to assist with writing reports and/or memos on the proposed new policies.
  • Collaborates with city departments, government agencies, and area non-profit organizations to understand their project and priorities and how it impacts women and girls.
  • Manages the department's communications, including drafting press releases, talking points, bi-monthly newsletters, and the department's social media.
  • Maintains and updates the content of the department's website.
  • Represents the Mayor's Office of Women's Advancement and the City of Boston at meetings, work groups, and task forces, as needed.
  • Assists or manages special projects and events as needed.
  • Maintains confidential department files and documents.
  • Perform other related work as required by the job.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in public administration, human services, and constituent services is required. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and can be substituted for two years of the required experience. 
  • Project management experience is highly desired.
  • Proficiency with social media, MS Office and Google.
  • Strong customer service skills; strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills preferred.
  • Ability to work well and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departmental staff.  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience writing reports is highly desired.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Work independently, follow through, and interpret complex oral and written instructions.
  • Candidates must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage multiple projects on a tight deadline.
  • Flexible schedule including the ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.
