Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

The Mayor’s Office of Human Services (HS) consists of Departments and Commissions that rely on successful strategic partnerships to realize their work and achieve their goals.  The Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships will focus on building strong, diversified relationships in order to advance the Cabinet mission, which ultimately is to promote the health and well-being of the City's residents particularly the most vulnerable. This position will coordinate activities based on the Human Services priorities, maintain and strengthen current partnerships and build new relationships to advance Human Services strategic goals.

 

Under the general direction of the Chief, reporting directly to the Human Services Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Human Services Department Heads and Director of Communications & Public Awareness to engage and inform key partners about Human Services programs and initiatives.
  • Leads Cabinet-level initiatives that advance Human Services strategic goals, amplify impact, and introduce innovation.
  • Identifies opportunities for the Cabinet to develop new partnerships that strengthen its policies, practices and services.
  • Identifies and works with local partners, internal and external, to determine support and activities that are most needed.
  • Manages the execution of major community engagement initiatives, developing engagement pathways for community partners and volunteers, and managing relationships with stakeholders
  • Focuses on creating replicable strategies for Human Services Departments that incorporate effective outreach tools and focused engagement of disengaged populations/neighborhoods.
  • Works towards program success metrics, and monitor and report on metrics regularly
  • Provides support and direction to Department Heads on partner identification, cultivation and engagement strategies.

Administrative

  • Meets regularly with the Cabinet Chief and/or Deputy Chief to brief, discuss, and assess projects; participates in all Human Services staff meetings as required and requested.
  • Participates and contributes in all Human Services Directors meetings and Cabinet meetings, as requested by Deputy Chief or Chief.
  • Serves as a delegate for the Mayor and the Chief in meetings, bodies, and events, as requested.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results to reach the mission of the Office.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in partnership management, community engagement and direct experience working with diverse populations.
  • Appropriate educational substitutions may be made for up to two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Substantive knowledge of the City of Boston neighborhoods and local nonprofit community.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for planning, research and communication.
  • Highly organized with very good written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Innovative thinking with a results-focused work ethic.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior relationship-building skills, ability to work alongside colleagues at all levels of government as well as with external partners and individuals.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese and Vietnamese).
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

TERMS:

 

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: Non-Union/Pay Range: $70,000 to 82,000 annually/Exempt

Hours per week:  35
