Brief Job Description:

 

The City of Boston seeks to hire a Community Liaison to lead our community engagement efforts in supporting unsheltered individuals and to promote safe and healthy communities. The Community Liaison will have two lines of work and reporting: 

 

Reporting to the Director of Coordinated Response in the Mayor's Office, they will lead and facilitate resident, business and stakeholder input and participate in all aspects of government through attending community meetings, responding to service requests, and emergency responses. 

 

Reporting to the Senior Advisor for Public Safety in the Mayor's Office, they will coordinate the planning, development and implementation of programs and policies across City Departments that advance safety, prevent violence, address trauma, and increase justice in Boston.

Responsibilities:

  • Represents the Mayor's Office at community meetings including but not limited to the Mass-Cass area and Public Safety - engaging with residents, neighborhoods, local businesses, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, other stakeholders, and more
  • Oversees community engagement relating to unsheltered homeless, substance abuse, violence prevention, summer safety, and adjacent topics. This includes listening sessions, proactive outreach, and strategically engaging city-wide Boston community members in the City's Long Term Public Health Strategic Outlook and Summer Safety Plan. 
  • Collaborates closely with other City of Boston Departments, specifically and members of the Coordinated Response Team, Boston Public Health Commission, Public Works, Boston Police Department, Fire Department, to implement above two plans, as well as the Warm Weather Plan. 
  • Performs the operational aspects of engaging and communicating with the community on the above plans, as well as taking in feedback and translating them into rapid, action-oriented improvements. 
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in community engagement, office administration, office management, business management or related field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and personnel in other departments
  • Strong and oral written communication skills preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required and during snow and other emergencies.

Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: MM2-8
