Brief Job Description:

 

The Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) is actively seeking LifeGuards! We operate a variety of indoor/outdoor pools and a beachfront across the Greater Boston Neighborhoods. As the largest human services agency, we offer a plethora of affordable programs for all ages located at various BCYF community centers and facilities throughout the City of Boston. BCYF welcomes people of all abilities to enjoy our swimming pools and participate in classes and programs. Our buildings are physically accessible to people with disabilities, and all swimming pools have a chair lift.

 

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard’s primary responsibility includes guarding the pool, ensuring the safety of all patrons, enforcing the pool rules, maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions around the pool facility and implementing the emergency protocols as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for administering aquatic programs and activities as set forth by the Department, including teaching swim lessons, coaching the youth swim team, supervising group swim activities, and assisting with other aquatic activities.
  • Performs wide range of swimming instruction to community patrons.
  • Complies with BCC uniform regulations as required by local health code.
  • Assists in the implementation of various pool programs and activities.
  • Maintains accurate daily pool records as well as sustain sanitary conditions in and around the pool, locker rooms, shower and toilet areas.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Performs other pool related duties as requested.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants must have current certification in ARC Lifeguard Training, certification in Standard First Aid, BLS-C.P.R. or comparable.
  • Knowledge of pool health and safety standards preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position.
