Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

The Senior Digital Content Editor manages, creates, and maintains the content on the City of Boston’s website, Boston.gov. They work with City staff to ensure we’re following best practices when creating content for the web. In this role, they protect the consistency of the voice and language of Boston.gov, with a particular focus on plain language. As part of their work, the Senior Editor is focused on user experience and improving the quality of our content. Aside from coordinating the daily management of Boston.gov, they also provide editorial oversight for other digital outreach channels. These include email newsletters, blogs, and social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages web content published on Boston.gov.
  • Serves as quality control for written, visual, and multimedia information on Boston.gov and related digital channels.
  • Reviews updated content for publication.
  • Supports multiple content creators in using best practices and maintaining the site.
  • Leads and maintains quality control of website standards and content across all city departments and programs.
  • Oversees, plans, designs, and executes web content policies and procedures for Boston.gov.
  • Researches, writes, and edits content for website and other electronic communications.
  • Provides user training and support on Drupal, our content management system, as well as advising on digital content best practices.
  • Coordinates projects with content providers and digital team personnel, suggesting improvements when needed.
  • Independently evaluates comparable websites using site traffic and trends, latest research, and best practices to find potential areas to improve.
  • Keeps updated on content best practices and new technologies or applications to optimize website quality and efficiency.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicants must possess at least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in digital content production web design, web content management, communications, or related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, marketing or information systems or related field preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Must exhibit a high degree of proficiency in written and verbal communication and grammatical accuracy, with a focus on plain language.
  • Strong proficiency and experience working within a web content management system; specifically Drupal is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines and be highly organized.
  • Experience working in diverse media formats preferred.
  • Familiarity with various web editing technologies and software including: website content management systems, the Google and Adobe suites, and social media management software, like Hootsuite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a professional demeanor in a team environment across all levels of management.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment and focus on the details required of the job.

 

 

Boston Residency Required.
