Brief Job Description


The bank reconciliation accountant is charged with ensuring that the City’s various accounts’ cash balances reconcile with actual month end bank balances.  The position will be responsible for identifying accounting and bank errors by providing explanations of the differences between the accounting record's cash balance and the bank balance position per the bank statement.  This position will also assist in various administrative duties as are determined necessary to support the Department.


Essential Job Duties


  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation reports
  • Assist auditors – internal and external – with documentation as required
  • Perform the reconciliation and verification of accounts regarding cash at hand and cash at bank
  • Reconcile transactions that are complex in nature
  • Maintain required files, reports, and data
  • Reconcile and resolve discrepancies all ledger accounts
  • File all prepared accounts in a well-organized manner
  • Reconcile a diverse set of general ledger balance sheet accounts
  • Continuously follow-up on all reconciling items and provide regular updates to direct reports
  • Manage of a set of complex bank account transactions with large volumes of incoming and outgoing payments;
  • Maintain documentation for the purpose of supporting files, reports, and data

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices with respect to banking operations and financial transactions.
  • Possess knowledge of general accounting principles and workings of the banking systems
  • Demonstrate the required skill to perform detailed work accurately and promptly
  • Exemplify good communication skill and ability to communicate professionally with others both verbally and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications





  • Financial statements and reports
  • Accounting ledgers and journals
  • Computer technology related to accounting systems
  • Principles and practices of financial record keeping, audits, and accounting functions
