Brief Job Description:


The Project Manager supports the Boston Cannabis Board by providing strategic analysis and support for a newly established industry, managing administrative responsibilities and assisting with the creation and implementation of a regulatory framework for the cannabis industry in the City of Boston. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing standard operating processes, managing the overall organization of materials for the Boston Cannabis Board, ensuring adherence to municipal and state requirements. The Project Manager must have a firm understanding of licensing and be familiar with the Boston Zoning Code. The Project Manager will only require supervisory consultation on applications or administrative issues. The position frequently acts as a liaison to Administration officials, executives and the public.


  • Creates and maintains standard operating procedures to manage the cannabis establishment applications,  supportive documentation and communications with the appropriate City departments.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Office of Emerging Industries and City of Boston Cabinet Chiefs, senior executives, applicants and constituents.
  • Assists with creating briefing materials for meetings and events, including talking points.
  • Prepares memos, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and other reports for Boston Cannabis Board.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to all inquiries.
  • Supports the day-to-day operations and activities of the Boston Cannabis Board
  • Performs customer services functions including answering phone calls, directing calls, and answering emails and other inquiries.
  • Performs related work as required by the job. 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:


  • (3-5) Three to five years of progressively responsible related experience in licensing or project management is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. A Masters degree is preferred.

  • Current familiarity with the cannabis industry and the role equity plays in this industry, Boston’s economy and neighborhoods is required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Agilepoint, as well as the Google suite is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Team oriented and must possess a proactive, collaborative approach to tasks and projects.

  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Knowledge of municipal and state government processes preferred.

  • Strong proven organizational and interpersonal skills required.

  • Project management skills preferred.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse community groups in the City of Boston.

  • Exercise confidentiality and discretion with highly sensitive information and demonstrate sound judgment.

  • Multitask, establish priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Think strategically and proactively.

  • Plan long-term.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Build relationships with internal and external partners.
