Overview:

Brief Job Description:

 

Under the supervision of the Director of Small Business in the Office of Economic Development and in partnership with the Public Improvement Commission, the Boston Licensing Board, Boston Transportation Department, Public Works, and the Inspectional Services Department, the Outdoor Dining Program Manager is responsible for managing the City of Boston Outdoor Dining Program and facilitating key interdepartmental work to execute the program in an effective, safe and equitable way.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the City of Boston Outdoor Dining Program and facilitates key interdepartmental work through working with Licensing Board, Public Improvement Commission (PIC), Boston Transportation Department (BTD), Disabilities Commission, and other department staff to execute the program effectively.
  • Leads the development, refinement, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Outdoor Dining Program, which includes processing and reviewing all applications, managing changes and updates to the program, and coordinating meeting and other necessary events related to the program.
  • Works with DOIT and Knack team on creating a permanent application process.
  • Inspects patios with BTD, PIC, and the Licensed Premise Unit (LPU) if needed and enforce proper set-up and maintenance of all approved patio set-ups.
  • Collaborates with small business unit staff to establish economic development opportunities for food businesses into the public realm.
  • Gathers relevant data related to outdoor dining and present data as needed internally and externally.
  • Updates Outdoor Dining webpage on boston.gov and social media posts related to outdoor dining.
  • Creates draft press releases and other communication materials related to the Outdoor Dining Program.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of relevant experience as a program manager including extensive experience with the development, implementation, and management of programs and services with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, business, marketing, finance, or a related field preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Strong customer service skills, including rapid and quality follow-through.
  • Basic working knowledge of contemporary street design and pedestrian safety.
  • Strong negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead, strategize, and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of city services.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and experience with other field related programs/software preferred.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

Boston residency required.
