Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Reporting to the Strategy and Operations Manager or designee, provides daily supervision and oversight evaluation of day-to-day work of Outreach & Engagement Coordinators (OECs) assigned to the various neighborhoods.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides day–to–day supervision of Outreach and Engagement Coordinators; monitors activities of assigned OECs in the different neighborhoods and ensures work is performed according to departmental policies and procedures. Prepares work schedules and ensures coverage during absences. Performs performance evaluations and initiates disciplinary action as required after consultation with Manager. Confers with Manager on program and employee-related issues.
  • Helps to develop ongoing engagement and outreach strategies with OECs.
  • Assists in providing training and technical assistance to program staff.
  • Plays lead role, within a team framework alongside Resource Coordinators, in supporting OECs in their efforts to promote and support the behavioral change of assigned group of proven-risk/ gang-involved youth.
  • In partnership with the Resource Coordinators, cultivates a network capable of linking youth and families with services and opportunities in the community.
  • Attends scheduled meetings, trainings and workshops.
  • Maintains records and documentation electronically; collects and enters information and completes forms and/or reports in a timely manner on department-issued devices according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • May perform the duties of an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience working with high-risk and proven-risk youth and families in a community-based setting required, of which one (1) year must have been in a supervisory or team leader capacity.
  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social or human services or relevant field may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Supervisory or team leader experience may not be substituted.
  • Understanding of trends and culture that contribute to violence, particularly community and gang violence.
  • Willingness to work on the street and in other unstructured settings is required.
  • Ability to work with proven-risk youth and young adults.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to de-escalate situations and maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations required.
  • Ability to effectively respond and provide support to staff in complex, fast-paced, and high-stress situations.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to collect and enter information and complete necessary forms.
  • Able to walk 30 blocks or more on a regular basis.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
  • Must have and maintain a current MA Driver’s license.
