Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


The Technology Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing organizational technology practices for the Age Strong Commission’s interdisciplinary units and its community partners. This includes providing technical support, virtual event moderation, and resolving on-going technical issues. The Technology Coordinator will work closely with senior management and the City of Boston’s Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) to identify and develop strategic opportunities that will help promote technology access for the Age Strong Commission staff and the older adults we serve.


  • Coordinates and supports the goals and standards of the Age Strong Commission’s information technology including but not limited to call center operations, transportation scheduling operations, constituent tracking databases, and others.
  • Serves as lead technology trainer for older adults. Stays up to date on trends in technology, formulate and administer training on best practices. Provides ongoing technical assistance to older adults.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Age Strong Commission, its staff, the City’s Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIt), the State, and other software providers to facilitate communication and provide ongoing support for current and future technology needs.
  • Works with the DoIT Department or in conjunction with the DoIT Department the Technology Coordinator will implement new technology to help support the Age Strong Commission programs and support users of various technology systems.
  • Creates job aides for staff, aging services partners and constituents.
  • Provides database internal quality control. Acts as the primary point of contact for all technological questions/issues with staff, investigate and resolve issues; analyze problems, and quickly form solutions.
  • Works with senior staff, the DoIT team, and others to establish goals and objectives for technology purchases, improvements and upgrades. Standardizes processes for acquiring and tracking the Age Strong Commission’s hardware and software needs.
  • Serves as the point person for collecting operational and statistical data, running reports, maintaining and updating records and reports, etc.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to quickly resolve issues and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Assists with Commission events as needed
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have at least three (3) years of full time technical experience directly interacting with computer systems, web-based applications, and end users both remotely and on-site.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar degree is preferred. Knowledge of database design & administration.  Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required experience.  
  • High level competency in Microsoft Excel and Access. 
  • High level functional service desk experience preferred.
  • General experience as IT manager preferred.
  • Strong communications skills and comfortability with training, teaching and mentoring.
  • Experience running web video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Adobe Connect, and Webex at minimum.
  • Ability to quickly identify technical issues, form solutions, and execute step-by-step troubleshooting procedures.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job. 


Boston residency required.
