Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under the direction of the Deputy Director or designee for the Office of Business Development, the Senior Neighborhood Business Manager is responsible for managing program(s) activities for the Boston Main Streets program.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and trains staff.
  • Designs, implements, and reviews business development programs policies and procedures.
  • Manages program activities including, budgeting, reporting, marketing and tracking systems.
  • Develops strategies to meet goals and objectives.
  • Develops and implements strategies to assist businesses to open and expand in Boston's neighborhoods.
  • Coordinates activities with relevant departmental staff and City staff.
  • Establishes and manages relationships with related private, governmental and non-profit entities.
  • Manages all associated contractual agreements for the provision of program services including performance monitoring.
  • Manages a citywide Main Street body.
  • Manages Boston Main Street Foundation.
  • Makes public presentations on Boston Main Streets management activities.
  • Prepares and review Request for Proposals (RFP's).
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years’ experience in business district development, urban preservation or planning or closely related field, including two years supervisory experience in a program or project management capacity. Appropriate educational substitutions may be made.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Boston neighborhoods and experience working with City government, Boston community organizations, and overseeing volunteers preferred;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office programs;
  • Excellent demonstrated oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, and management skills preferred;
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SEIU 888/N-24

Hours Per Week: 35
