Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job)

 

This is a provisional appointment.

 

Reporting to a person of a higher grade handles inquiries and provides assistance in the preparation of Municipal Lien Certificates.

Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade, interprets policies, rules and regulations; receives requests, instructions or information; investigates records, files and other information resources to obtain necessary information.  Classifies information according to office procedures; transfers or posts information to records;  sends, routes and relays forms, materials and information; maintains files; retrieves information or data from files; files information’ processes forms; checks forms for accuracy and completeness.  

 

Handles inquiries from attorneys on a daily basis, prepares legal documents for official recording, including State Form 290, application receipt, Municipal Lien Certificate.  Computes frees, assists in resolving tax problems and disputes.  Processes applications for Municipal Lien Certificates in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Assists in processing of special assessment accounts. Performs related duties as required.

 

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of fulltime, or equivalent part-time, office experience of which three (3) years must have been in tax collection or related work. A bachelors degree may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.Three years experience in tax collection work. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of office management preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to this position preferred. 
  • Ability to prepare statistical reports and relate complex oral and written instructions. 
  • Familiarity and practical use of Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of office management preferred.
