Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources or designee, the Management Analyst is responsible for reviewing, administering, tracking and advising on leaves of absence and assisting in the processing of disability retirement claims. 

Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities will include: 

  • Manages requests for medical and other leaves of absence including but not limited to: workers compensation, on-duty injuries, and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), military; 
  • Collaborates with the City of Boston’s Human Resources and Retirement departments and the Department's Occupational Health Services Unit, Office of Labor Relations and Legal Advisor on medical matters; 
  • Responds to employee inquiries regarding leaves of absence and reasonable accommodations;
  • Implements all policies and procedures and/or training programs in accordance with applicable city, state and federal laws, collective bargaining agreements and/or Departmental Rules and Regulations; 
  • Assists with the processing of disability retirement claims; 
  • Provide expert testimony in court and at arbitrations;
  • Assists with all current projects as assigned by Director; 
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, paid professional experience in Human Resources in which two (2) years was managing leaves of absence, including FMLA and other federal and state leaves; experience with City of Boston leave policies and programs preferred; office management where the major duties involved managing, overseeing projects and exemplifying a high level of attentiveness to detail.  Must be able to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.  It is strongly preferred that applicants have extensive experience with computers, Word, Access and advanced Excel and experience with medical terminology; a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field; and ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with all levels of management. Preference for experience with PeopleSoft or equivalent HRIS system.
