Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

The City of Boston seeks a Labor Counsel to join its Office of Labor Relations and represent the City in negotiating collective bargaining agreements, administering such agreements, and representing the City in litigation that stems from such negotiations and enforcement of such agreements. This position offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include representing City departments in the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, at grievance arbitrations, and in court proceedings and proceedings before state administrative agencies.  In addition, counsel investigates and advises departments on day-to-day labor and employees issues.  Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate
  • At least 5 or more years of lawyer experience preferably within a government agency or in labor relations
  • Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with no disciplinary record
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
  • Excellent, clear and effective writing and organizational skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, WestLaw and Social Law Library

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
