Overview:

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under the direction of the Chief of Staff: Develops and implements strategies for outreach, community engagement and public awareness. In collaboration with OHHS departments, develops and manages marketing/communications vehicles to promote cabinet programs, services and events.

Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

Community Outreach 

  • Establish and maintain goodwill, understanding and collaborations with various diverse communities.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community-based organizations and nonprofits.
  • Support and enhance outreach efforts of OHHS departments.
  • Coordinate and facilitate dialogue between the diverse communities as well as with the city and the mainstream communities.

PR, Ethnic Press & Intergovernmental Relations

  • Working with the Mayor’s Press Office, develop and maintain contacts with the ethnic and mainstream media, disseminate OHHS information to press/diverse communities on a regular basis.
  • Working with Mayor’s Press Office, reach out to and assist OHHS departments’ staff to establish relationships with the media and develop and disseminate relevant information to the media.
  • Prepare and edit materials for external and internal communication, including press releases, statements, etc.

  • Develop materials and implement strategies to promote OHHS programs and priorities, externally and internally (in City Hall).

  • Prepare and assist with the production of flyers, brochures, newsletters, year-end reports, videos and multi-media programs.

Other Duties
  • Coordinate demographic report and other research and surveys.
  • Actively participate and contribute to OHHS team efforts and initiatives.

  • Manage special projects as needed.

  • Other assigned tasks as necessary.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in public relations/marketing, press and knowledge of graphics software (e.g. publisher, quark express, adobe), etc., in work which included working with various ethnic communities,working in municipal government, project management and research required.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of the team required.
  • Ability to organize and inspire cooperation and collaboration required.
  • Commitment to the department's mission required.
  • Bilingual, bi-cultural persons strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
