    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


    The City of Boston Treasury Department’s Trust Division is seeking an individual to help serve Boston neighborhoods and communities by assisting in the coordination of certain charitable assistance through the Trustees of Charitable Donations, a group of trusts in place to provide one-time assistance to residents in financial need. Cases will be handled by phone or in person. The Coordinator is in charge of conducting initial assessments of residents' situations to determine needs and goals, gathering relevant information about their cases, researching and advocating for other appropriate public assistance resources, and making referrals to other agencies and services both internal and external. The coordinator reports directly to the Trust Manager. The coordinator must be empathetic, but also be able to set boundaries, listen actively and ask pertinent questions, and possess strong communication skills.



    • Assists clients in receiving services by telephone and in person.
    • Ensures that all case files, and other records, strictly comply with policies, regulations, and procedures.
    • Assesses clients and gathers relevant information.
    • Offers information and supports clients and their families.
    • Contacts and makes referrals to other agencies and services.
    • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
    • Assists with similar duties related to other City trusts as required.
    • Performs related work as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:


    • At least three (3) years of fulltime, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in social work or as a caseworker in a professional social service provider setting. With comparable combination of education or work in the related experience is preferred.
    • Ability to give full attention to what clients are saying, understand the points being made, ask questions.
    • Proven coordination skills to connect individuals/families with relevant services preferred.
    • Display a positive and proactive attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, to make presentations, and to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with diverse groups of people.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage and support diverse internal and external stakeholders in collaborative working relationships preferred.
    • Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion with highly sensitive information and demonstrate sound judgment.
    • Fluency in a second language preferred.
    • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job. 


    Boston Residency Required.
