    This is a provisional appointment.

    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

     

    Under administrative direction plans, organizes and directs the work of subordinate personnel engaged in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signal electro-mechanical and solid state electronic controls and circuits including such solid state equipment as transistors, logic boards, integrated circuits, triacs, read relays, diods, capacitors, etc.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Prioritizes shop orders received; maintains tow-way radio communication with field operations and dispatches priority calls.
    • Responds to complaints on a 24-hour per day basis.
    • Sets up training schedule for all new types of control equipment; trains new or subordinate personnel.
    • Supervises the troubleshooting and repair of all traffic signal equipment.
    • Researches all changes, updates and revisions to the Massachusetts Electrical Code and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
    • Assists the City Law Department relevant to liability claims; appears at court hearings and testifies on matters relevant to traffic signals.
    • Assists in the process to recover monies owed to the City for damage inflicted by motor vehicles to traffic signal equipment.
    • Maintains an up-to-date computerized on-street traffic signal inventory system to provide accurate information relative to City-owned traffic control devices.
    • Interviews/hires new employees; evaluates the performance of subordinates.  Monitors, verifies and approves attendance records.  Makes recommendations on a variety of personnel actions.
    • Participates in the research and preparation of BTD's Operations Division FY annual and supplemental budget; analyzes purchase and repair costs to control expenditures.
    • Performs related duties as required.

      Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of the Transportation Department or designee.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    Three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic traffic signal control equipment of which at least two (2) years must have been in a supervisory capacity. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

    CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:


    Massachusetts Hoisting License, Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License.
    IMSA Level II Signal Technician Certification

    BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

    Terms:

    Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/MM4-8
    Hours: 35 per week
