    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


    The Community Choice Energy Coordinator will assist implementation of the City of Boston’s municipal aggregation program.


    Municipal aggregation, also known as community choice energy, enables cities and towns to aggregate the buying power of individual electricity customers in their communities. Under an aggregation program, customers will have more control over the kind of energy they use in their homes or buildings, and the price of that energy. One of the goals of Boston’s aggregation program is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and champion the use of local renewable energy, supporting our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.


    The Community Choice Energy Coordinator will coordinate and execute outreach and communications strategies to support implementation of Boston’s municipal aggregation program. The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Community Engagement and with the support of community partners and a team of consultants.


    • Coordinates the implementation of communications and outreach strategies to eligible customers of Boston’s municipal aggregation program, including but not limited to:
      • Schedules and staffing trainings for staff and volunteers.
      • Schedules and staffing neighborhood meetings and coordinating with relevant City departments.
      • Oversees the development of resources and materials.
      • Oversees the development and execution of direct mailings and paid advertisement.
      • Coordinates digital marketing and social media activities.
      • Supports strategies for earned media.
    • Manages the coordination and facilitation of Boston municipal aggregation working group to support the implementation of the aggregation program.
    • Manages the coordination across City departments and agencies to support the implementation of the aggregation program.
    • Develops community partnerships to inform and strengthen implementation plans.
    • Perform related-work as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    • 2 years experience working in a community setting (for example, with a student, volunteer, or religious group).
    • Ability to work offsite and after hours, occasionally on weekends, on an as-needed basis and with advance notice.
    • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills for communicating with a diverse audience.
    • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Energy, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
    • Candidates that are bilingual (speaking, reading, writing, and translation) will be highly considered.
    • Candidates with a strong knowledge of Boston neighborhoods will be highly considered. 
    • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.


    Hourly rate: $24 per hour
    Hours per week: 35
    Duration: through June 30, 2020
