    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

     

    Reporting to the Small Business Director, the Mobile Enterprises Manager is responsible for providing needs assessment, direct assistance and the delivery of programming and initiatives to address the needs of all food truck and non-food truck merchants as well as other business initiatives as they arise, in addition to running the Boston Food Truck Program.

    Responsibilities:

    • Runs all aspects of the Food Truck program, including but not limited to; organizing the lottery, managing the database, collaborating with key departments, communicating with business owners, etc.
    • Develops strategy to grow and expand the Food Truck program.
    • Facilitates the launching of new mobile businesses and the strengthening of existing mobile businesses in Boston, including the development of policy.
    • Identifies business needs and provide one-on-one business assistance for a wide diversity of mobile businesses and entrepreneurs including:
      • Guidance on how to start, strengthen or relocate a mobile business in Boston.
      • Connections to appropriate business service organizations for legal advice, financial assistance, business plan development, bookkeeping services, and marketing experts.
      • Providing referral recommendations on requests for loans and other financial assistance.
      • Providing assistance with permitting and licensing requests.
      • Assisting businesses with site selection service providers in Boston’s neighborhoods and Boston Main Streets commercial districts based on business needs.
      • Providing direct assistance and/or referrals on requests for additional City services.
    • Assists in the strengthening citywide commercial districts, e.g., developing, implementing and sustaining programs and initiatives to address business needs, including women, minority, and immigrant-owned businesses.
    • Develops formal and informal partnerships with external organizations in order to better leverage and coordinate business assistance resources.
    • Provides support on district planning issues.
    • Develops and provides administrative oversight of grants and contracts related to supporting Boston’s neighborhood businesses and neighborhood commercial districts.
    • Performs related work as required.

     

     

     

     

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    • At least four (4) years of fulltime, or equivalent part-time, experience in program management or related field in work of which at least one (1) year must have been in directing/managing neighborhood business improvement or related activities and two (2) years must have been in small business development and assistance.
    • A bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, marketing, finance or a related field preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. Other appropriate educational substitutions may be made.
    • Strong customer service skills, including rapid and quality follow-through.
    • Demonstrated business needs-assessment and direct business assistance skills, including financials.
    • Strong negotiation and organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to lead, strategize and solve problems.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees in various departments, business owners, and organizations.
    • Familiarity with Boston’s neighborhoods and direct experience dealing with neighborhood businesses’ needs preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of city services preferred.
    • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency preferred.
    • Strong computer skills, including MS Office and experience with other field related programs/software preferred.
    • Ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
    • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

     

     

    Boston Residency Required.
