    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


    The Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) team is seeking a Software Asset Manager. This role will report directly to the Director of Operations and work closely with DoIT’s Operations team and other DoIT Senior Leadership. The Software Asset Manager will manage all software licenses, maintain compliance, control software installed to ensure monitoring of software usage is managed and determine if unused licenses should be transitioned between employees.



    • Oversees, develops and implements “Best Practices” process management and governance framework for existing and new suppliers, software licensing agreements and service agreements for DoIT.
    • Monitors maintenance and licensing renewal dates, as well as review license utilization and compliance with current entitlements and provide analytics for potential cost savings.
    • Interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders including our Legal Department and external Auditing teams.
    • Designs, develops and generates software reports to communicate and monitor compliance, entitlement, liability, usage, and cost data.
    • Manages, researches, updates and evaluates software asset management products in an effort to evaluate over- and under-licensing.
    • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert for licensing terms of agreement.
    • Performs related work as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    • Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience with software enterprise agreements or license management. A Bachelor's degree in a related field can be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. A Master's degree can be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience
    • IAITAM certification strongly desired
    • Familiarity with SAM (Software Asset Management) tools (i.e Flexera, Snow) and technology research experts (i.e Gartner, Forrester)
    • Considerable experience with software licensing and a strong understanding of software technology; Can be from a technical, legal, or operational perspective
    • Demonstrated decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Project Management experience desired
    • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail
    • Proactive approach and strong communication skills
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and effective with minimal guidance
    • Experience in partnering and collaboration skills preferred.
    • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.



    Boston Residency Required.



    Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA MM1-8

    Hours per week: 35
