    This is a provisional appointment.

     

    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

     

    Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty and supervises the work of mechanics, craftsmen and custodial workers engaged in the repair, maintenance and cleaning of City owned buildings.

    Responsibilities:

    Inspects buildings to determine needed repairs; assigns and directs subordinates to correct conditions; observes personnel and contractors performing construction and repair work to ensure adherence to specifications.

     

    Prepares sketches, simple specifications and estimates of materials needed for repair; requisitions supplies and accounts for same; maintains records of time, work done and materials used.

     

    Assists in preparation of annual budget estimates for anticipated maintenance and repair work.

     

    Performs related work as required.

     

    Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.

     

     

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    Applicant must have two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the maintenance, inspection, minor repair and cleaning of public buildings of which six (6) months should have been in a supervisory capacity.

     

    Good knowledge of basic arithmetic; of the practices, procedures and techniques used in maintaining, repairing and cleaning buildings; of the methods and techniques of supervision.

     

    Considerable ability to supervise a staff; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers and contractors; to prepare sketches, simple specifications and estimates; to maintain records.

     

    Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

     

    Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts Driver's license.

     

    BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.

     

    Terms:
