    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


    The Mayor’s Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing (MOCAL) is a public agency consisted of two divisions. The Consumer Affairs Division provides assistance to Boston consumers by educating consumers on their rights and mediating disputes between consumers and business entities. The Licensing Division regulates Boston’s entertainment industry and liquor licensing. MOCAL is seeking one intern to aid the Licensing Division. This internship provides valuable experience in the permitting process for the City of Boston.


    • Assists Licensing Investigator and Asst. Director of Operations with one-time, special and annual entertainment and liquor applications.
    • Sets up administrative and application hearing dates and aid with legal notices.
    • Answers inquiries regarding entertainment and liquor licensing related to M.G.L. Ch. 138.
    • Performs clerical duties and maintain licensing files
    • Aids with license renewal submissions and process payments.
    • Updates and posts social media content to Licensing Twitter page and on department webpage.
    • Peforms related work as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    • Good written, verbal communication, and organizational skills
    • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Positive attitude
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Experience with the general public through counseling, interviewing, or human service experience is helpful, but not required
    • Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.

    Boston Residency Required.



    Hourly Rate: $14 hourly

    Hours per week: 15 hours 

    Duration: 4 months
