    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):


    The City of Boston Office of Diversity is committed to advancing the values of inclusion and belonging in our municipal government. Our goals include reflective representation of all demographics in our workforce and building an organizational culture that positively engages our employees.


    Under the direction of the Chief Diversity Officer, the Diversity Programs and Outreach Coordinator leads established initiatives like the Neighborhood Career Fair Series and the Employee Resource Group Program. The position has the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of city departments and help them navigate their diversity and inclusion challenges. 


    The Diversity Programs and Outreach Coordinator is also in contact with constituents and community organizations, providing information about working for the City of Boston and supporting their career advancement. The position offers excellent opportunities to innovate by building new partnerships and formulating ideas to harness our workforce's incredible existing diversity.


    • Coordinates a bimonthly itinerating Neighborhood Career Fair Series, including recruiting employers, organizing logistics, conducting extensive constituent outreach, collecting data to evaluate results, and producing reports.


    • Coordinates Employee Resource Group (ERG) Program. Supports ERG employee liaisons on an ongoing basis. Ensures ERGs are sustainable and bring value to the organization and city residents.


    • Handles all external communications, liaises with Press Team. Maintains office website and digital communications to keep constituents updated on the team's goals and progress.


    • Works with departmental staff to improve recruitment and retention of diverse candidates and employees. Serves on hiring committees as necessary.


    • Maintains resume bank of candidates to be matched with employment opportunities that fit their qualifications. Supports applicants during hiring processes.


    • Assists Chief Diversity Officer with miscellaneous tasks including scheduling; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; initiating telecommunications.


    • Performs related work as required.

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    • At least two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in work that included communications, community outreach, event planning, employee resource group support, diversity and inclusion initiatives, or human resources.
    • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, public or business administration, human resources, or a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout Boston’s government structure and with external partners.
    • Strong written and oral communications skills.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to employment practices.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud based applications (Google Drive and related) strongly preferred.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required.
    • Bilingual candidate strongly preferred.
