  • Overview:

    Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

     

    Under the supervision of the Office of Small Business Development Director, performs outreach to small, local, minority and women-owned businesses to assist with business support and contracting opportunities with the City.

    Responsibilities:

    • Represents the Office of Small Business Development (OSBD) at Trade Fairs and other similar events; develops and distributes promotional materials for the office.
    • Assists the Certification Manager with the certification of businesses.
    • Implements the City of Boston’s 5-year small business plan.
    • Helps staff City of Boston Small Business Center.
    • Helps market and promote the availability of certified businesses to City departments, other government agencies, and the private sector purchasers.
    • Develops and builds working relationships/partnerships with other City of Boston Departments, local agencies and business service organizations that also assist and promote MWBEs and SLBEs in the Greater Boston area.
    • Makes appropriate referrals to assist certified firms for technical assistance including the development of business plans, obtaining access to capital, business location, and other resources.
    • Performs related work as required.

     

    Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

    Applicants must have at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in the field of office or business administration in work where the major duties included one of the following functions; market analysis, procedural analysis, records management or financial administration, or any equivalent combination of experience and educational substitutions; must have strong communication and organizational skills; must have computer knowledge of Microsoft Software; ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

     

    A bachelor's degree is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
